Before I began writing this entry, I read a few of my first posts. Roughly six months ago I was hanging out by the lake, fishing, not quite sure what it was I going to do with myself now that I had graduated from school. All it took was a suggestion, an informational trip if you will, out west, and I was hooked. Upon my return home from that first trip, I knew I needed to move to L.A. if I wanted to become a part of the Hollywood machine. Now, after 3,000 miles of driving, I am laying in my friends bed in the Valley, still with no permanent address of my own just yet, pursuing a dream with a fire burning underneath me. So much so in fact that my tactic of harassing the company's I want to work for via email and voice mails has actually paid off. I got a call this morning from one of my favorite film and TV production company's who has their own temp agency. They are going to put my name on the list, which means I will be called in to work on big studio lots as well as in smaller company's, in variety of different positions that need filling. This will be the best way for me to learn the business, the town and everything in between. This is THE BEST way for me to go from having zero experience, to tons, in a short amount of time. I have no doubt it will be challenging, and I simply can't wait for the challenge. The thing you learn as an athlete and as an aggressive student is that the challenges are what make it all worth doing. I don't say this naively either. I'm fueled by passion for an industry that has had a hand in making me in to the person I am today, who will in turn, be getting a piece of me, even if it is minimally to start.
If today could not get any better, my mother, who went in for surgery this morning to improve her quality of life, did so successfully. Getting a job is my #1 goal, but my family is my #1 priority. I'm happy her surgery was a success, and naturally I am sad I can't be there with her during her recovery, but I know she wants me to be here doing just what I am doing. Any success that comes my way is a result of my parents unwavering love and support of whatever I am passionate about.
I am still looking for a house with my two friends. We have an appointment this evening to see a house which they both love and I'm sure I will too. I'll have more on that later on tonight.
I'm feeling good, confident and ready to absorb all that this great city has to offer.
Stick Around,
Man On The Can
