1 on 1

I played basketball my entire life, right up through college. But I haven't picked up a ball in over a year now. My playing days have long been gone. I've been in the gym maybe five times over the course of this summer. My plans of getting in shape and living a healthier life have been replaced by summertime merriment and laziness. I can accept this. What I can't accept is when I lose a game of 1 on 1 to a 16 year old because I'm out of shape and can't hit a shot! I say this in a joking manner of course. The kid I played was my good friend Paul's younger brother. He's my height, but weighs 100 lbs less than I do, jumps through the roof and had a great mid range shot, not to mention the fact that he never stopped running around. It was awful. I told myself, if I don't throw up, it's a win for me. Well, I didn't get sick, but I felt absolutely miserable afterwards. A jump in the lake helped, but it didn't change the fact that I was just hit with the reality check that I am too young to have the body of a middle age man. Like I've said many times before, tomorrow I am going to stop eating crap and do something in the way of exercise and see if I can't get on the right track. I'm also going to make sure I get a rematch against this kid.

Summer's almost over. Make the most of it.
